A principal at a Catholic high school in Broward County is behind bars on a domestic violence charge, jail records show.
Richard Pierre Jean, the 50-year-old principal at Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, was booked into Broward’s Main Jail Tuesday.
Police say a call came in at about 2 a.m. Tuesday reporting a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived they found a male victim who said he was “involved in a physical altercation” with Jean, according to an arrest report.
The relationship between Jean and the victim is not clear.
The victim told police he was having a “conversation with [Jean] who became upset and attacked him,” an officer wrote in the report.
The victim also said Jean threw him to the ground before he was able to run away, police said.
“I observed bruising on the neck of the victim,” the officer said in the report.
The Archdiocese of Miami said in a statement that it learned of Jean’s arrest Tuesday, but said the “details of the arrest are vague at this moment.”
“He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Miramar Police Department’s investigation,” the Archdiocese said.
The school’s assistant principal, Kevin Molina, has been designated as administrator of the school in Jean’s absence.
